Drama: When Bob met Harvey

A really good drama over Christmas on BBC about the planning and execution of Band Aid / Live Aid.

As seen through the central characters of Bob Geldof, who needs no introduction, and Harvey Goldsmith, a concert promoter. There is plenty of detail describing the technical problems and sheer logistics of organising the event. Also the game of poker that Geldof plays to coax the artists by letting them think others were signed when they were still deciding.

A central theme was getting the TV coverage, something left very late in the planning and it is surprisingly tense drama.

One strange plot line was the chasing of Paul McCartney to perform in the belief that he would be a big draw. He had not been touring for six years so that is a surprise to me, and all I can think of his work at the time was the Frog Chorus!

But it does then lead to the moment where he performs Let It Be, and the microphones fail allowing the audience to sing along to help.

The acting is superb, the drama is tense, well worth watching.
